What this checklist covers

A practical marketing checklist for independent restaurants: get found on Google, earn and answer reviews, turn menu and website visits into orders, and bring guests back without paying for every visit.

Who it’s for: Owners and managers of single-location restaurants who do their own marketing, without an agency or a big budget.

When to use it

  • When you open, or take over a restaurant, to get the basics right first.
  • When sales flatten and you want to know which marketing jobs are missing.
  • Once a quarter, to check your Google listing, reviews and guest list are still up to date.

How to use this checklist

  1. Work through one section at a time. The 20 free tasks are in 5 sections: Local Search & Google Business Profile (GBP); Menu Merchandising & Website Conversion; Reputation & Review Velocity; First-Party Loyalty & Direct Guest Retention; Social Media & Community Synergy.
  2. Tick each task when it is done. Your progress is saved in this browser, and to your account if you sign in.
  3. Open “Show how” on any task for the steps and a practical tip.
  4. Print the checklist, or download the tasks as a CSV, to share with your team.
  5. Create a free account to see 5 more tasks.

Common questions

Where should a small restaurant start with marketing?

Start with your Google Business Profile: correct hours, menu, photos and phone number. It is free and it is often the first thing a nearby guest sees. Then work on reviews and a way to stay in touch with regulars.

How do I get more Google reviews?

Ask happy guests at the right moment, make it easy with a short link or QR code, and reply to every review, good or bad. Don’t pay or give discounts for reviews; Google’s policies don’t allow it.

Do I need to be on every social media platform?

No. Pick one or two your guests actually use, post regularly, and spend the rest of your time on your Google listing, reviews and guest list.
